Problem Paint
Sags or Runs
Tears or curtains of paint on vertical or inclined character lines of the painting part.
Dry Spray
Rough, irregular orientation of the painted surface.
Mottling
Non-uniform, blotchy appearance of metallic paint. Alluminium particles congregate rather than maintaining their prescribed distribution.
Machine Striping
Zebra effect, uneven coating caused by non-syncronized line and travel gun speeds. Uneven lapping of metallic colors is particularly troublesome.
Low Gloss
Poor light or image reflectance. Gloss represents the amount of light reflected, distinctness of image measures the clarity of the image reflected
Off Color
Does not match master color panel.
Solvent Pop
Small bumps in paint film. This condition is more likely to occur on edges or areas where film build is the heaviest. The surface skin-over, trapping solvent underneath.
Sand Scratches
A film that shows scratches trought the color coat. Scratches mat be straight lines or circular (where orbital machine sanders are used).
Dirt
Cratering
Small rounded indentations, normaly evenly spread over the affected area. Larger craters have slightly raised edges.
Gassing
Small bumps in paint film. This condition often occurs in a reoccurring. Irregular pattern. Looks like solvent popping but does not always occur in high film build areas. Cross sectioned panels show the origin of the defect to be in the substrate occurrence does not vary with colors,or product type, but tends to be part specific.
