Automotive Refinish
Distance from surface
The recoomendation distance for holding the gun from the surface is 6 to 8 inches for fast drying product (lacquer and 8 to 10 inchies for slow drying product (enamels) and basecoat/clearcoats. holding the gun closer than recommended restricts the separation of atomized particles. This result in excessive wetting of product upon its impingement. Conversely, holding the gun back from the surface further than recommended, allows the atomized product to widely separate and on impingement will lack the required wetting.
Gun travel speed
The gun travel speed should be such as to insure proper uniform film buikd using a 50% ovelap. Most product require maximum wetness without creating an excessive film build. (–Fact–) *Proper gun adjustment and spray technicque does not guarantee that the paint product or product will atomized properly. In addition, proper atomization depends upon other factor such as the amount of solvent added to the product and the amount of atomized air pressure used.
